Hi John,
In the past I've gotten a lot of good advice from you regarding mintors and headphones and thought I'd send you a message for some advice.
I work for a television channel and due to my background in Audio production am usually tasked with spec-ing out the monitors/speakers in our galleries and audio booth. We usually get Harbeth M20s for our edit suites and small control rooms. However, we're building a new separate audio booth for our new gallery and although the Harbeths are great monitors I don't feel it allows us to get a proper idea of the low end.
I've seen many of your posts raving about the Geithain RL906s.. I've suggested that the engineers get some in for demo if possible. We're also trying to get some PMC TB2S+ in but thee might be too big. Are there any other models you would suggest checking out?

My name is Yann, and I own, as you, an HD 800 for my mixing purposes... and I have a question for you : do I really need a preamp for better "mixing information"? I mean, I use the headphone amp from my RME sound card and never felt I should upgrade. But every one around keeps telling me I miss crucial information....

Is that true? Which do you recommend? It's hard to find usefull info, as every headphone amp contains DAC and options I don't need.

So then, based off your experience, a shotgun mic like the CMIT5u wouldn't necessitate using any transformers or balancing circuits to be used without suffering damage?
