about 8 years ago you suggested the CAD M9 tube mic to me... it has been my vocal mic champ until the power supply recently blew up, and the CAD company is terrible has not got back to me on where I can buy a new one. I don't think they exist (7 pin power supply replacements).
Anyhow your advice was for a dark warm tube mic to replace my old MXL V77 and you were right on.
Any advice on a mic in the $400 range today? I just miss that dark warm sound!
I have a blue bird, a Heil PR40 and an Oktava 319 but they are all lacking that warm dark rich sound for vocals.

I see you are doing a mod for the yamaha hs80. I read your comment about event 2030 and about the hs80 mod. I have a amp that's going out on one of my event asp 8 monitors and will need to replace with hopefully a upgrade.
My studio 16.8 x 25 x 8 was design by JH Brandt and REW responds was good -/+6 and sounds good in here with just a few db of to much low mids. My question to you, will your modded hs80 be a upgrade from my events ASP 8 or will the event 2030 be a upgrade. I really want the 2030's but the modded hs80 keeps nagging me and i'm reading a ton of post saying the stock hs80 translate great to other systems.
Should i go with the 2030 or modded hs80 and please respond cause i have to make this decision Monday or Tuesday
I'm considering getting a pair of Pre-73s because of the rave reviews.
My only question is about the noise that is apparently present.
I was just wondering if you think it's that big of an issue that I should look into getting the ART Pro MPA II to get two nice pres.
I understand that it's apples and oranges comparing the two. But budget wise if I'm going to be getting signal noise i'd much rather get the MPA II and an SM7B then two Pre-73s that have noise issues.
I'd really appreciate your opinion, since you seem to know what's the deal. This will be my first outboard purchase so I want to make it count!
PS: not looking to mod either except maybe the tubes in the MPA II. Definitely not the transformers in the pre-73
