Hi John. I have great admiration for your work.My name is Ronan Morgan, I am a 28 year old student from Ireland. I am currently finishing a degree in music Technology. My dissertation 'The Importance of drum sound in song' discusses different approaches engineers use to achieve the sought after sound for the song . I would like my last chapter to have engineers opinions on how they approach drums. I hope you wont mind taking my interview.I am deeply grateful for your words that will go towards the making my dissertation. Thank you, Ronan. 1. What is your opinion on the Importance of drum sound in song? 2. Have you an approach to recording drums ? 3. Do you have a certain approach towards drums when mixing ? 4. Do you use different reverb times/ delays on drums ? sign : ______________________
Hi John. Currently trying to record my debut LP, playing and overdubbing all the instruments and intend to mix it, master it, release it etc on my own as I don't see the need to sign away to labels anymore, and I can't really afford outside help. I've blown my savings of £5k on a cheap second hand PT HD3 set up (God bless the recession!), and am just getting to grips with it.
I'm transfering wav's over from my AkaiDPS24 (which blew up), so i'm trying to sort through ALL the recordings (all unnamed, EVERY botched take and overdub!) I made on that.
I'd just like to ask, do you think I have a hope in hell of pulling all this off? Some sessions are here www.myspace.com/kaikillickmusic , the first 2 songs are closest to completion though the first is the only one i've attempted to mix with plug in's e.t.c on PT. I know they are rough, and I have little knowledge of mixing e.t.c right now, but do you like the songs?
