Thread Starter | Some advices before fabric ...
Hi everyone, i would like to extend my knowledge about how to prepare the medium for the fabric. I use to master all my track with Sterling-Sound by eMastering ...Tom Coyne master my track and send me back the file on the server ...i download the file on my computer and now it's time to burn the CD ...I know that the best way it's to let Sterling Sound to burn a CD with their facilities and let us send it to the fabric ...but always cause of budget, my clients don't let me extra-charge them. Then i use to burn a CD with my G5 mac and Toast Titanium at the lowest speed with Verbatim CD ...one for my client to listen and one for the fabric. But ... First, Toast, with Verbatim CD, just let me burn at x8 minimum ...i am pretty sure that the CD doesn't sound as acurate as the file dowloaded. Second, sometimes i have error on the CD ....like volume not stable during the song, etc ... My questions are : is there CD better than others ? Are Toast and G5 acurate to burn a master CD ? Which speed to burn ? The best medium to send to fabric ? etc ... Regards, Julien A. |

You've got some pretty weird problems there. I'd advise you to get a professional mastering engineer to make the master for you.......if you provide all the songs as one long file, it shouldn't cost much more then 100 euro or so. (the ME just needs to drop in the track markers and ISRC codes and burn /check)......a single should be a bit cheaper.

Taiyo Yuden CDs are among the best and often used by MEs. You'll need to send a PQ codes sheet to the replication's plant. I don't know if Toast can do that or write ISRC codes. Your CD should have as less as possible C1 errors and none C2 errors or the replication's plant will refuse it. Plextor CD writers rock for that.

| It depends on the cd. Some cds are made to be burned fast, others perform better burned slow. You can solve these mysteries by comparing c1 and c2 error checks of cds burned at different speed. The Plextools, that are part of some Plextor cd-writers, do these kind of tests. For me Taiyo Juden work best. Regards, Bill |
