Thread Starter | Mastering a "Live Concert"...
Hi.. A recent project of mine involves doing a mixdown of a live concert that maybe broadcast on a TV channel. Should professional mastering be considered for this or will the mixdown suffice ??? |

Some live concert mixes for TV have been mastered, but most not. In any event, who ever does the post production audio for the show will EQ and level the mix if required - many post mixers are good with music. I agree with the last caller - do not slam the mix with a peak-limiter as though it were a pop CD. Let the peaks live - it will sound much better on the air. Also, mix at 48k and provide a digital file for the post guys so they do not have to reconvert your mix. The level can stay low, around -18dB for 0VU so they don't have to bring it down to standard digital audio for video level.

Depends on the quality of the recording / mix.........mastering could be completely essential, utterly unnecessary, most likely somewhere in between.........you won't know 'till it gets mastered! Or broadcast.
