Plextools Test Results, HELP!

I just finished running some tests on a cd I burnt on my Plextor drive. I used Plex Tools professional to run some tests but I'm not sure how to interpret the results. I'm attaching three jpegs so that I can get some help interpreting the results. Thanks in advance!

I use TY media. I'd expect to see around 900-1000 C1 errors on an 80 minute disk. 18000 is pretty poor, and I never get C2 errors unless there's something ugly on the CD surface. I've seen high error counts on other kinds of media.

What kind of media (use the CD/DVD INFO in Plextools)? What speed are you burning? I generally burn 8x - sometimes 16x using Plextor Premium drives.

For the test that was done in the shots I put up, the cd was first played in my truck to reference it before testing so it might have picked up some dust and such... I'll use TY for the real stuff this was just for me to listen to. Even at these C1 rates though it plays fine on my tacoma's pioneer system! Any more specific interpretaion of the jpegs? For instance how to read the betta jitter test etc.

C1 errors are, by definition, 100% correctable on playback, but I still do what I can to burn the best disks I can manage.

Those numbers are fine - a little high compared to what I normally see, but fine. Remember, red book allows for some 220 C1's sec (over any 10 sec average, iirc). I have an in-house policy of a max of 22 C1's/sec peak, not C2's, no CU's and unless the media or burner are bad (TY silvers with Plextor Premiums), generally see C1 averages in 0.4-0.8 range...

Those numbers Brad cites are very close to our in-house standards and his measured results are what I'm getting every day with Plextor burners and TY media writing at either 4X or 8X speed, and even at 1X, averages under 1 C1 typically.

Thanks for the replies, Brad and Bob respectively. GReat info that really helps. The media I used for that test was imitation cd's I got at Target. I'm going to invest in some TY's soon, very soon indeed!

If you want media you can buy at a retail store, Fujifilm disks are TY. Verbatim Datalife Plus (and only the Datalife Plus) are not TY, but they are also good disks. Non-Datalife Plus verbatim disks will likely be similar to what you already have.

Interesting, I'll have to check it out and see if they are made in Japan. What would the infor say in plextor would it actually say TY?

Sweet!

Well I just did the tests and I'm happy! The Fujifilm CD-R's made in Japan that I got are indeed Taiyo Yuden's and check out the results after burning at 8x, I'm happy! Thanks to everyone for they're feedback and suggestions. Even though GS has been frustrating as of late because it's been so buggy I have to say it is a great forum because of people like you!

Now *that's* a nice clean burn.

Just finished up what I considered a "bad" batch of TY's... Consistent C1 averages above 1 and consistent peaks above 20.

200 units...

I'll bet 30 or 40 of them went through the CD Shredder. Which in and of itself is a fun sound...

But they're gone now - and I'm back to the usual 0.4's and 0.5's again with a peak of 15 or 17 or so...

FYI - next time you need a screen shot, leave the camera in the drawer and hit ALT-PRTSCREEN to capture the current window, or CTRL-PRTSCREEN to get the entire desktop copied to your clipboard. Open your favorite graphics app and PASTE. TA-DA!
