I heard once (and you know how these things stick...) that if you disengage ARC and set a slower release manually (according to the program of course), and then re-engage ARC, it will then use your manual selection as a sort of "new baseline" from which to gauge release times. It may be my ear fooling me, but I seem to be able to push it a tad harder using this advice.

Can anyone confirm or deny the science? How bout trying and listening? Am I imagining things?

I've been playing with VST analyser. It doesn't show the actual release time but judging by the way other things change, like harmonic distortion, when ARC is on, the manual release time settings are irrelevant. As soon as I hit ARC, the levels of HD or whatever jump back to exactly the same levels reguardless of the release time settings.

Actually a very interesting design, that box.

Guess for all you GS'er's that think crushed sonic mayhem nirvana is for some reason found in the analog realm - here's your chance to see for yourself.

I think you're probably imagining things, it's not the way the L2 behaves, the autorelease is not affected by previous manual settings. By the way, I've been moving away from "fast-optimized" autorelease sound as it adds a distorted edge that really gets to you, although it sounds louder, probably due to the distortion---- (common to both the L2 in auto and the TC set to "loud"). Instead, I've been using the TC limiter in "dynamic" mode as often as I can. It sounds more "musical" and less processed. But sometimes dynamic mode "sucks" a bit by being a hair too slow if you feed it too high a signal, but you shouldn't be exercising a limiter that much anyway :-).

Limiter On TC Finalizer

Hi Bob Katz
