Anberlin new album : the new brickwall?

First I hope the guy who mastered this won't take this personally and maybe (s)he just done what the label ask. But what's your opinion about the mastering done for Vital - Anberlin?

For those who haven't the CD here's two songs stream it's not that representative of the brickwall used even on the ballads...
Maybe I don't hear what I should hear...

I've seen and heard worse, but it really is a horrible unmusical sound IMHO. 2 minutes is all I could manage.

But, there seem to be enough people who dig it.

ps: I don't know them but just listened to the 2 soundcloud links..

That is a genre in rock that loves to push the ceiling. Any album recently released by Fearless Records has the same problem.

They're just...crushed to the ceiling. A matter of taste for sure but some of them just don't sound good.

Yeah and this is the purpose of the topic.
For me this is especialy over-compressed, no?

Do you think this one sounds good?

I agree about the Fearless Record, basically the new whole library of albums released suffer the same syndrome, they just want it Hot, I as a listener of this kind of music, I found it so fatigue and no dynamics, Thats the move of the record, but most of the people who listen to this bands don't care that much on quality just "volume" and more about the live performance.

I've heard worse but at this kind of loudness, there will always be tradeoffs and nothing will ever be as good as it could be. Personally, I prefer a sound preserving transients. Compressors distort transients by having attack/release settings, and limiters can make things sound just "off" to me.

Speaking of Fearless Records, I hate what they did to Breathe Carolina - Hello Fascination. They ruined that album! Just check out the chorus of "I Have To Go Return Some Video Tapes"
