Question to ME´s using PT HD10.3.2/32 Bits

SRC quality with Pro Tools HD 10.3.2/32bit x 8.1.1HD/24Bits
Hi,

Most of the time I use Pro Tools HD for mastering.

So, latency compensation and SRC quality are crucial to our daily tasks.

I have bought Ozone 5 which is said to have a superior Sample Rate Conversion Quality. Also, Sample manager is considered to be a great tool for batch conversion and bit truncation.

My question is: Is there a leap in quality with Pro Tools HD10.x/32 Bits in terms of SRC versus 8.1.1 HD/24 Bits?

Thanks in advance!

Your question seems a bit unclear; Ozone doesn't do sample rate conversion, and I don't think Pro Tools 10's addition of 32-bit-float file compatibility has anything to do with their SRC options or the way they're handled.

Sample Manager has the iZotope SRC algorithms available, and that's an excellent SRC, for what it's worth ... But is that what you're asking?

This would be the place to check, SRC Comparisons

But I don't see PT10HD listed yet.

Hi

Hi, Dave. Thanks for your concerns.
Exactly what you have written: My curiosity lies in the way Pt HD10 deals with SRC.

I remember the overall improvement when I moved from PT 5,7 to PT 8.1.1.

So, Can the new software version be compared to Sample Manager/Ozone´s stuff, said to be the best software SRC?

I have visited this SRC comparison chart some time ago but it only goes up to PT LE 8.0.3.

Not the best software choice, but OK.

SRC quality, yes, but latency is completely irrelevant to our work. I've mastered on analogue systems with 0 latency and I've worked on Windows based systems with over a second latency and it makes no difference.

Doubtful. PT doesn't have particularly good SRC capabilities, but few software packages do. The main reason I'm responding to your message is because I've been using SoX to handle all my SRC work lately and it's extremely good, and free.

Thanks, Wado. Who is the developer of Sox?

I can´t believe why Avid does not license something better for its SRC section if they want to continue being the "market leader".

Let me put it this way, Bose is not a market leader because they implement great acoustic design, it's because they implement great marketing. Same thing with Final Cut Pro. That is a CRAPPY, CRAPPY video post software package, but people think it's great because they have clever marketing.

Any rate, I think the idea behind PT is to record at the rate you want to use and stay there through the production. SRC is an afterthought.

It's definitely relevant if one performs parallel processing in the box.

I use some CPU pigs here and the total sum is bigger than what PT HD 8.1.1 can handle in terms of delay compensation.

The new delay compensation goes up to 16383 samples, which is mopre than ok for several years and plug-in combinations.
