I also master some electronic music and after my maselec mla3,I use a elysia museq and the more I'm using this setup the more I'm thinking that a passive EQ is best after the mla3.
The reason are, I don't really like the make up gain on each band of the mla3, I think a passive eq to make up the gain lost will sound better.
I need to try that. EQ wise I'll consider the em-eq2 or the Bettermaker, Giraf 14 would great but it will be to dirty for me because I have a Phoenix at the end of the chain.

Very happy with our Buzz Req 2.2 and we master a lot of electronic music. It's incredibly versatile from broad shaping to near-surgical like performance. And the shelves are very smooth and highly flexible. If I could only have one EQ in our studio, that would be the one.

I agree. The maselec goes well with a sweet sounding eq after it, I think that the bettermaker would be ideal. Haven't heard it yet but it is both a t-filter eq and passive pultec, and my suggestion would be a sontec/pultec combination, so the bettermaker may fit the bill perfectly!

Bax EQ can be the ticket. Or maybe you should try Filtek or Siemens stuff, that vintage console mastering eq's. They have nice colour to the sound. I found them awesome to electronic music and acoustic stuff.

Actually the Massive Passive or bust in my opinion.

I'm finding the chunky sound of the API 5500 excellent for electronic music also and the workflow very pleasing. By comparison I found the Ibis a bit delicate in tone and the feel of the controls somewhat toy-like and not all that good for recall. Each to their own I guess. I know it's a popular choice.

Do you find it versatile enough to do corrective work? In mastering, I rarely use more than a dB or two, and the bells on this EQ seem a bit too big, since the bandwidth control directly relates to how much gain is being used. Just curious.

The Buzz 2.2 would be good choice in that chain. More flexible than Massivo or 5500.

Do you like the Ibis thus far?

I do a lot of electronic music and I love my Blue 315 Mk1

How do you think it handles the lows? Tight enough? Is it useable for banging techno? Or is another EQ more recommend for that genre?

For me, it works excellent in the lows. It can be precise enough to move a kick forward or back without affecting the bass too negatively. People often cite the 5500 as one of the best for low end but I find myself using the Buzz more often than the API.
