Need Help Removing Vocals

Hey,
Each year, my school organizes a musical. Unfortunately we could not find the karaoke versions for all of the songs.

I tried removing the vocals and succeeded with some basic software(Adobe Audition). However, It did not work on the track that I attached to this thread.

Could anyone download the attachment and try removing the vocals for me?
Or just give me some tips or recommend some software for this.

Thanks in advance!
Adriaan

Unfortunately, this is not something that can really be done without really harming the sound quality. You can try using the band splitter to separate everything above 300Hz or so into a separate track, inverting the right channel of said new track and summing everything back to mono. Like I said, you'll lose a lot of quality this way, but there won't be much (if any) lead vocal.

To the OP

One overlooked problem with trying to remove vocals is it is based on assuming that the vocalist is dead center in the mix. Today that is not necessarily true. The other problem is that most vocalist have stereo reverb added and you cannot get the voice out of the mix completely. There use to be a device advertised in the back of Popular Science that guaranteed it could remove most vocals but I doubt that it worked as advertised for all vocal removal chores.

There is a new piece of software from Sony Creative which I have not tried that maybe able to do what you are seeking. It is somewhat expensive but there is a trial version available. Here is a link to the information SpectraLayers Pro Overview. It is available for the PC and the Mac. It does have some fairly specific hardware and software requirements.

Best of luck!

Roland R-mix looks interesting -

Something for you to listen to.

- I've posted a couple of video links later in the thread, but Lynn's examples are worth a listen.
