just a fast test, but no attack/release ... love my DS1
bummer .. that's what makes a good d-esser ... it sounds good, but it just lacks the real controls I want/need .. why they did not add that ...

Aha! Maybe this is the reason Sonnox decided to put Suppressor on 40% discount this month

Yep! Came here to post a thread about this. I've been waiting for a de-esser plugin with a similar feature set by a company I respect like FabFilter for awhile. Will be demoing today!

I kind like the Renaissance DeEsser but I will give this one a test drive, the FabFilter does have some great stuff.

Been needing better DeEssing and was just demoing this against the SPL plug. To me, FabFilter gets the win. Less audible distortion when working with challenging tracks. And the SPL plug is good, too. Excellent work, FF.

I can't get Pro-DS to load in the Wavelab 6 master section - I get an error message stating "can't handle required number of input channels".

Is this a VST3 issue?

Any workarounds?

Use it on the individual track.

Thanks Greg -

I can get it to work there, but it doesn't fit my workflow as I use the master section to save EQs for each song, as well as the smart bypass feature.

Are you having the same issue? Does it work in the master section on your end?

See here FabFilter - Frequently Asked Questions

I had the same problem so I wrote the company an email and this is their solution.

I see. I don't use the master section so I have not run into that problem.

FWIW, you can store all plugs directly in each song clip. Much more flexible, IMO, as you can have completely different processing for each song within the same montage. Then, put your final limiter in the effect and it will be saved with the montage without having to worry about saving the master section.

The only thing I can see that you'd be missing is the smart bypass, which I never found a use for.

Thanks Tom and Greg-

Fabfilter pointed me to the same page and the plugin now works in the Wavelab 6 master section.

Greg, how do you compare processed to unprocessed without the so-called "smart bypass"? It's definitely got upsides and downsides.

I really wish Wavelab would allow you to route a montage track to a separate set of outputs so I could handle this externally, but there's no good way to do it as it stands.

Using the master section for EQs also helps me stay organized and use the same processing chain for mix recalls, 48k for video, etc., though I still have to recall the analog path. The master section is also necessary for using the analog path.

When I use plugs it's mostly fix-it type stuff like de-essing or narrow band EQ cuts so it's easy to bypass them individually to hear what they are doing. Different strokes. I've been doing it this way since WL6 came out and I can still recall mixes from 6+ years back with all plug-ins intact. Heck, I've been doing it that way since Sonic in the early '90s (Sonic 1.0 desk automation...oh, that was fun...).

How does it sound?

Anyone gotten down to some serious hands-on work yet? How does it compare to the Sonnox?

I don't have the Sonnox to compare it to but I just used the FAB de esser on a project with an over sibilant female singer and it worked GREAT. This was used on the master tracks and not on individual tracks. One really GREAT feature is to be able to audition what you are doing to the track. Nice piece of professional software, My hat is off to FAB for always doing a GREAT job with their software and continuing to provide good tools for the pros and at a reasonable price point.

Hello all,

Not posted here in aaaages, hope all are well.

Two things about this product;

1 - it's a really, really good de-esser. Very smooth. Love using the look ahead almost as an attack control. My new favourite, bought it after 2 weeks of working with it.

2 - (and this the reason I ended up posting here) it really really needs a dim setting for the filter audition. Agony. My only complaint - going to mail them now.
