Red Orange or Blue for mastering Algorithmix

Which one of the algorithmix plugs is most suited to mastering?

All, but I think you'd get most mileage out of Blue if you had to choose just one.

I have to agree. I'm just getting into the Blue. And it was the best equalizer for an analog tape that needed judicious "pushing and pulling" that the red did not achieve. I can't remember which mode I used!

But the Red, that's the magical invisible sweetener that I turn to most of the time when I'm not mastering "out of the box". I still dream of an alliance with Christoph's algorithms and Weiss's boxes. The minimum phase mode on the Weiss is still glorious, but the Blue can turn the tables around and around.

Hi all.

I have been using the red, a question...

Im not even sure its working properly. I mean, I can boost , say 12db at 400hz on a bass and it seems fine no prob. Any other EQ and the sound it would be booming all over the place.

I know its actually working, I say that in jest, but what is actually going on in real terms with this plug? How does it achieve such large amounts of boost and the sound remain intact?

The other problem is, Im going to want to mix with this thing now having tried it. Obviously its a big resource hog, but I wonder if anyone uses it in select places for mixing as opposed to mastering?

It does use a lot of CPU so it's best used on critical tracks, vocal, etc. You need to have good latency compensation in you DAW. You can always bounce or freeze tracks if it starts to make your machine hiccup.

Red and Orange are better for mastering 2-Track because they have to much latency which my daw (cubase sx 3) can`t handle with.

If you plan to copy the 2-Track to have more tracks with individual settings you have to load a dummy without activated bands, just for latency.

Try also http://www.refinedaudiometrics.com/n...05-11-04.shtml

10-Bands, mid/side-processing inclusive, for less money, very good quality. Also liniarphase like the two algorithmix`

Not anymore. Algorithmix has a general DX interface and VST support for their plugs now, and a stand-alone interface for ReNOVAtor.

The best thing about the dx version is you can enlarge the plug to the whole size of the screen.

Its cool.

I have all of them (Eqs). For me, Orange is doing the best job during the mastering. You can do everything without touching the character of a track.

With Red you can add lows or highs in a very pleasant way, more musical than Orange.

With Blue you could add interesting character to the highs (expecially using Parallel LC/ High Shelf), but it adds too much colour to the mid/low frequencies during the mastering. I think it's more for mixing, but it's a great EQ anyway.

In general, Algorithmix plugins are very good at high and low frequencies but IMHO there could be better EQ for mids somewhere in the world.... Pultecs? NSEQ-2 ? I don't know (yet) but I hope to find out...

For me, the order of buying should be Orange -> Blue -> Red and - YES - Algorithimix was definitely good purchase!

BTW. Plugins are expensive but they are worth the price. They're (Algorithmix) give you serious discount if you buy all three plugins. I've bought three for 1700 EUR + VAT. Just ask them for the price.
