the more slam my Avalon 747 the less bass feel

Hello, i'm working on a dance track and fighting with the bass and loudness, the client want a 2012 standard commercial loudness, we listened some moderate examples and we are no looking for the biggest loud track, i say... a good balance between fatness and loudness.

I know every song have a loudness potencial and a point where it start to sound good or bad.

The question is how do you preserve your bass pushing a little hard your gear?

The bass and BD track on the mix session was deliverate distorted on bass area by the composer (great sound and loudness potencial), and the song have these "minimal" arrange, good for a well bass loud mix.

I feel on pop tracks is more easy to get a good balance fatness and a cool reasonable loudness .

...

Go with the compressor which has adjustable side chain. Most of the time you'll be happy setting it up at 100Hz.

thanks for the reply, i usually set the avalon with no compression at all , when i put the compresion with gain reduction the sidechain eq is cuting the bass freq to avoid the pumping effect, i use the unit like a front end or gain stage device before the HEDD.

I usually get great sound this way, but my client want a little more loudness and boom bass, and we are suffering a lack of bass slamming the Avalon and the Hedd a little bit.

The competitive sound of some CD is hard to get but it start with the composition and mix.
It's time to work harder with this track, maybe we have to reconsider the mix

The thing i never can get that kind of bass boost ITB, On dance tracks i insert an Aphex xciter to sum the big bottom, and a SPL tube vitalizer , the bass i get are great, but it removes the possibility of a loud master, i push a little the avalon and a Daking being the last of tbe chain, but it is not enought for hot level.
if i remove this bass enhacement i could get decent volume.. but i thing here reside the most important key to get good amount of clean loudness

The loudness garbage...

Yea could be...
try moving it to the front of the chain and using it as a gain/eq box. Or try not using it at all...
keep the rest of the chain the same and let us know how it works...

Man..... ALL IS ON THE MIX AND SOUNDS YOU CHOOSE!!!!!!!!!

I have been working hard with the mix changing and arranging some sounds and we are more comfortable with the sound pushing the Hedd a little with less artifacts.

Probably too late, but maybe interesting: In the thread Avalon Vt 747sp shootout you can find an example file using the graphical EQ in front of the compressor of the 747 to fatten up a kick. Since this 747 setting (EQ before the compression) often leads to some loss of stereo width and depth, it depends on the musical style if that could be done on a complete mix, too.
