Dac converter and monitor control in mastering

Hi everyone

This is the first time I write, excuse my poor English. And I thank you in advance for the help you can give me.

I'm looking for a DAC converter and monitor control. The features I'm looking for:

- High quality DAC.
- Input Toslink ADAT (at least channels 1-2)
- Level control in steps (that allows me to level with the K-system)

I found out about some and I would appreciate your comments.

- TC Electronic BMC-2 (has all the requirements, but makes me doubt the price)
- MYTEK 192 DAC DSD mastering version (this has all the requirements)

The following:
Bencharmak DAC1, Grace Design M903, Grace Design M904, Dangerous ST, Dangerous D-Box, Dangerous Monitor, Crane Song Avocet, SPL, Drawmer, Lavry DA10, Lavry DA11.

I think not meet all the requirements or are very expensive.

Between MYTEK 192 DSD and TC BMC-2, what do you recommend? Or you know of another model I can be useful?

Thank you very much

Marcelo

yo Marcelo,

I've owned the BMC-2 and is very good unless you use it as dac which is class b.
If you plan to go out with the aes-ebu then is going to be a bargain for the price.

For a rispectable mastering grade dac you have to look else where like
class a/class a+ ..you've named em all but Linx Hilo, which is a new product,
and have the feeling will blow the market.
Im waiting my unit coming next week -the first in Italy- proud of that..

Thanks for the reply.

With respect to the classes. Effectively the BMC-2 is class B and the MYTEK is class A. So far I prefer the MYTEK (Until now)

About the Linx Hylo really looks like a good drive. Congratulations for your new purchase. I hope your comments when you try.

Best regards

I think its hard to go wrong here. I just bought Lynx Hilo, which is amazing for conversion. I'm using Hilo to capture my analog chain and print to DAW, and monitor from the DAW. But I send the Line Outs to my SPL2381 for a little more flexibility for monitor control. Many mastering suites have a single set of monitors, so something like Hilo or a number of the others listed will be fine to drive a pair of amps. Or with something like Hilo which has separate converters for the monitor out and line out, you could run two pairs of speakers. Avocet is another amazingly flexible DAC/monitor controller. So it really depends on your needs. Sound wise, most of the things listed above are amazing. There are scientific specs and subjective opinions about sound. You probably should demo some. I've used Apogee Rosetta 200, Benchmark DAC1, and now Hilo. They all have their own character sound wise, with Hilo being quite a bit more flexible and having a really neutral sound that I like for capturing my analog chain to DAW, and to reproduce/playback what's captured in my DAW and processed there. But interestingly, I send the original stereo file to be mastered out through the Benchmark because I like its character feeding into my analog chain. Hopefully over time I'll get to plug some other things in there to see how they sound. But for now, I'm going to role with my current set up.

Its my personal preference but I would say mytek or bust. But again that is my personal preference.

Unless you have the money for a Prism. Then its Prism or bust.

Thank you very much for the comments. This website is great.

I saw great comments about Crookwood, but I don't found dealers or distributors in America. Anyone know where to find these products?.
