Is this what minimal processing sounds like?

Hey All,

I've been going back listening to the Beta Band's "Three EPs" and outside of loving their music, I've really been taken back by the sound of this record.

I've attached an example but the whole record is good.

First, I do realize it is extremely dynamic (definitely not trying to start a loudness war debate) but what I really love is how clean it sounds.

My guess is that it was recorded really well and use of compression was at a minimum.

Do you think the same was true at the mastering stage?

Love to hear your thoughts.

I haven't listened to this for a long time, I havei t on vinyl somewhere, but wow, what an amazing collection of tracks. You've just inspired me to dig it out of my collection the first chance I get.

It is really hard to judge what the mastering has added to any recording without hearing the mixes, a large part of mastering is also knowing when to do very little.

For me a Great recording is made at every stage of the process, but more importantly a great song. The tracks on that record really never made me notice the production, just how great the song is.
