I was more impressed by the Weiss but that kind of thing can be very dependent on exactly what is driving the converter. At that price level it would be foolish to not try both in your own system.

Both are great in their own way. The Weiss ADC is practically invisible - transparent and elegant. No graininess - very smooth and neutral. Minimalist Analog Devices op amp based analog stage. The LavryGold is also highly resolved and transparent, but brings a kind of large, warm, classic sound to the transfer, not unlike passing through some of the great class A designs of yore. Features are quite different. Weiss can do 192k, and includes a digital limiter derived from the Weiss DS1. The line ins are quiet enough and have enough gain for mic ins. The LavryGold runs up to 96k, offers digital saturation modeled from an analog tape transfer function and also includes a "no over" LSB toggle for those that like to overload their ADC. Both as good as it gets only with differing philosophies.
