Did someone compared Crookwood DA with Forssell DA and Dangerous Monitor DA? Thank you

Crispin, the owner of Crookwood is a superb designer and a great person to deal with.
Here we have DAs from Prism, Euphonix, Grace, Dotec, but our new 6ch Crookwood DA is the best of the bunch.
He can make you a highly customized system to fit your particular needs.
With the pound being as low as it is at the moment, buying Crookwood is a no-brainer

I haven't compared the Crookwood DAC (I have two of them, one for monitoring, one for transfer to the analogue chain, I have one of their ADCs for capture from the analogue chain too) to anything other than prosumer DACs, so it's not really a fair comparison, suffice to say that it blows them away!
I believe they are very competitively priced for the quality they offer, and have heard from some they they compare very favourably to things like the Forssell. The only downside being you need to order them as part of a complete Crookwood system, which can be quite expensive.

You can get it in the smallest monitor controller which is not that expensive.
If you also need a monitor controller it is an easy choice

Thank you for the feedback.
Indeed my question was for it's a complete monitoring and mastering system!

Yes, as a whole system it's fantastic value for money. I ordered a custom C1 monitor controller last summer, it has the main monitor controller functions which have become indispensable, an excellent headphone amp, a nice big 2U VU meter, 2 x DACs and 1 x ADC, and has revolutionised the way I master. If you haven't seen it already, there is lots more info on the basic features here: C1-4AS-4XP Stereo Monitor Controller
But Crispin can work with you to provide something that will perfectly fit your needs. I'm looking forward to upgrading to a full mastering console at some stage (basically just adds insert functionality and more monitoring checks), with the M/S Trimmer module, and possibly the Elliptical EQ.

The thing that makes Crispin unique, is that he listens to your needs.
He does this while keeping prices and quality as if it was serial produced while giving you a completly customizeable product.
The biggest bonus is the ability to further customize the unit later on

I am also thinking about a monitor controller and as soon as Crispin manages to issue the MADI card for my iPre I will order this controller.

Drop him a line about the madi card issue

Pyramix 8 is a gamechanger in this respect.
If Merging will cooperate with Crookwood, you will presumably also get direct control of the preamps from within pyramix

By the way have you seen the new layout of the iPre?
I had a whole lot of wishes for my 24ch iPre which he has now all tackled in the new layout.
If he manages MADI, Ravenna or Dante network protocols then he is going to have a strong product. |

AFAIK the new madi card is ready to ship, I am getting my ipre rebuilt to the new 4RU 32ch micpre with 32 splits, madi, DPA 130v etc, but Crispin is waiting for the metalwork to arrive at the moment.
I will report back as soon as we have the new unit in house.

What is this new layout about? I can't find something on the website, and I would be very curious about it. I am a happy owner of an ipre that I wanted to expand very soon.
Thanks,
Dirk
