Wavelab 7 with OSX - Any problems?

I have been using Wavelab 7 for over a year now and in principle it is a great mastering program. The caveat is "in principle". Since I made the switch from using a Windows XP based PC to an OSX based Mac I have had nothing but hassle. I have tried all updates, including the latest update (7.2.1), but the program still crashes several times a day. I think it basically doesn't like 3rd party plug-ins. I have become so paranoid that I save my work every other minute to make sure I don't lose it. Even the auto save function in the Montage window causes my system to crash. Needless to say, it's pretty frustrating and wastes a significant amount of time.

I am curious whether other OSX users are (still) having problems with Wavelab 7?

you should post your issue on the steinberg forums to find a solution...they are normally pretty good at getting back to you!

Ha, that's a good one!

If they listened they would have ported WL6 to Mac by now.

Well, I actually have WL 7 running on a PC with XP (no crashes there) and a Mac with OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).

I agree that Philippe is pretty quick to respond. But the usual line is that the 3rd party VST plug-in developer is at fault. That may be so, but I really don't care whose fault it is. Steinberg should be communicating with the plug-in developers and vice versa. I am bored of being an perennial beta tester for software companies who cannot get their act together. Unfortunately, there are no other cross platform mastering programs out there. So here we are, patiently (or not) waiting for the day when software actually works as advertised.

Have you tried an earlier version? I'm on PC but still running 7.10 because that is the most stable and least working.. www.steinberg.net • View topic - external gear with 7.2 not working the way it should
I think i read somewhere that it's the same on a mac.

It's a tough choice. With OSX update 7.1.1 allows me to use most of my plug-ins, but crashes quite regularly. Update 7.2.1 crashes less, but behaves sluggishly so that I often have to repeat commands as the computer does its processing. There are also plug-in GUI issues when switching between the file and montage windows - sometimes the plug-ins all pop up on the screen at once (reminds me of a jack-in-the-box). Not conducive to a good workflow either. With earlier versions I vaguely recall having problems with dropouts when using external gear. At least those have gone now.
