| Lives for gear | Neumann W492 x 2 for mastering
Just wondering if anyone has used or is using a pair of these, or some DIY builds (I've seen a couple of studios I'm going to email tonight) for mastering? Realize they are fixed Q (but its wide) and that it's essentially a high end console EQ, but I'd like something for the odd occasion where I want to do more complex interactive shelving EQ to compliment my DIY Sontec MEP 250, especially for situations where I need to do a gentle shelf over the high end and then a stronger boost on the "air" kinda frequencies, which I sometimes find myself having to do on a lot of home recorded/lofi stuff which lacks that sparkle as well as a nice tonal balance.. Anyway, I am going off topic. So yeah, anyone tired em/using em? Also seen a Studer channel DIY EQ bobbing around

I build one myself quite some time ago (i think you are also looking at the DIY version?) and it thought it was a nice EQ but not really suitable for mastering. It sounded nice and punchy but a bit rough and not really subtle. To me it feels more like a buss EQ rather then a mastering EQ. Maybe with stepped switches it will be nice for some occasions but with potmeters not really. FYI: i sold mine because i didn't use it. If you are looking for an air EQ maybe look into the nite eq3d? Done with stepped switches this can be nice. |

thanks Mr Goose. The guy who built my sontec is gonna build one for me to try, just an un-stepped one, so I will give it a listen. I spotted that Nite EQ earlier infact, so I will do some research on that too. |

| Lives for gear | Yep already been talking about that, and also sticking an attenuator on the output and possibly a MS matrix also.
