Neumann W492 x 2 for mastering

Just wondering if anyone has used or is using a pair of these, or some DIY builds (I've seen a couple of studios I'm going to email tonight) for mastering?

Realize they are fixed Q (but its wide) and that it's essentially a high end console EQ, but I'd like something for the odd occasion where I want to do more complex interactive shelving EQ to compliment my DIY Sontec MEP 250, especially for situations where I need to do a gentle shelf over the high end and then a stronger boost on the "air" kinda frequencies, which I sometimes find myself having to do on a lot of home recorded/lofi stuff which lacks that sparkle as well as a nice tonal balance..

Anyway, I am going off topic.

So yeah, anyone tired em/using em?

Also seen a Studer channel DIY EQ bobbing around

I build one myself quite some time ago (i think you are also looking at the DIY version?) and it thought it was a nice EQ but not really suitable for mastering.
It sounded nice and punchy but a bit rough and not really subtle. To me it feels more like a buss EQ rather then a mastering EQ. Maybe with stepped switches it will be nice for some occasions but with potmeters not really.
FYI: i sold mine because i didn't use it.

If you are looking for an air EQ maybe look into the nite eq3d? Done with stepped switches this can be nice.

thanks Mr Goose.

The guy who built my sontec is gonna build one for me to try, just an un-stepped one, so I will give it a listen. I spotted that Nite EQ earlier infact, so I will do some research on that too.

Try to have him make the EQ with a switch with the option so that it boosts and cuts less then what it standard does. It's not that hard to implement, i think a resistor in series with the gain pot will do the job. It's a really simple EQ to build and mod.

Yep already been talking about that, and also sticking an attenuator on the output and possibly a MS matrix also.
