I love this Box!
I agree the ReQ 2.2 is a great EQ, but it is stupid expensive (over $6,000) and out of my price range.

The SPL Passeq is what leaps to mind with all the things you are looking for. The 2055 is nice too since it has both active and passive filters.

At least as far as the 8200 is concerned, that's not its strength.

This is the difference from 1982 and today. In 1982 we AE's didn't have the arrogance to say "I can make you better than you really are" or "I have a box that you have to use or"?

We did our job, and it wasn't to stick our thumbprint on someone elses' music.

Now days AE's, ME's all think they are the 5th Beatle or something.

Well, your not.
This "cleanliness" you're talking about that you INSIST is THE solution, might not be part of the artist's vision at all!

You forgot about the album as an art form. You are exactly who you speak of, an arrogant engineer.

Really, listen to yourself,

Best,

Wait, what? You want an EQ that doesn't change the tone of the track?

hahahahahaha

I can't stop laughing about this. What can this possibly mean?

There's a lot of things that would work, that don't change the tone of the track. The possibilities are endless. A metering plug-in won't change the tone of the track. Waving your hands in the air won't change the tone of the track. Applying fancy blinged-out colors to the tracks in your DAW won't change their tone.... installing a rack of sexy gear in your studio without plugging it into anything won't change the tone of the track.....

Equally funny to me is everyone jumping in and replying with various EQ recommendations without questioning that the purpose is to "NOT CHANGE THE TONE OF THE TRACK" with it!

I guess we're just agreeing that the OP means BARELY change the tone of the track, or SMOOTHLY change the tone of the track? Subtly? With ultra-wide Q?

In fairness, it is hard to describe nuances in audio. But let's try to eliminate "musically" from the descriptors since most everything here is musical in one way or another. Transparently is another one of those well-worn words in musical circles and GS that doesn't really offer much value.

Okay, I'm now fully prepared to be flamed for these views.

You're stretching there a bit, mate. I don't 'insist' on anything. You do.

We just got the SOMA into the US for testing and demos to follow. This thing is really built-Wow! Jonte Knif tells me he builds each on by hand, ground up. We'll be posting photos soon.

True: amazing build quality. Lovely sound too: I'm finding it just superb on jazz and female vocals (our accidental speciality).

Cheers,

Eric

The SPL Passeq may be a good option; will have a look at the Mill EQ too. I don't recall the Avalon 2055 being musical. Maybe I will just buy two Mini Massive's and be done with it. With the transformer on, it gives me the sound I am looking for. Clean, but musical without being hard, soft, or round.

My C skills are not up to date, but I got close to your custom bot, right?
