Thread Starter Verified Member | Sonoris Meter and RME DigiCheck 3dB off?
Not sure where to post this. I noticed today that my Sonroris Meter plugin, and the meter that comes with the RME DigiCheck software are different, when both are set to the K-14 setting. The Sonoris plugin reads 3dB higher on its RMS scale (the peaks read the same). I don't always go by the full K-System, but I have got used to reading my Sonoris Meter and love it. When you set the RME meter to K-14, I was assuming it already applied the 3dB difference, as that option is then greyed out in the settings. Which is correct? It's kind of infuriating, as I can use the RME software to monitor ANY ASIO source (whereas the Sonoris is tied to one host), so I'd like it to read the same, for clarity's sake, or at least know which one is "right". ![]() Thanks in advance, Gregg

Bon giorno, Babaluma, This sounds like the AES +3 dB RMS factorink option in SpectraFoo for the K-System. In MetricHalo SpectraFoo, it can be toggled. (At least in version "rad3f17.") It is forcibly set to "on" in Digicheck, whenever K-System is invoked. However, Sonoris might ckheve option to turn on - if so, do so. Otherwise, it might be a flau in this implementation. Thanks Laarsø. It's stuck to "On" on the RME, when you use the K System, you're right, and the Sonoris Meter has no toggle for it. But then you'd think they'd both be the same, and not 3dB off. It's very strange, am wondering if it might have something to do with the release time, which is a setting in the RME software (10 to 100dB per second), but again not an option on the Sonoris Meter. Time to have another play methinks...

But as we've been saying, when you set it to one the K modes, the 3dB setting on the RME DigiCheck software is hardwired ON, and can't be set.

Ran some further tests with tones and music, and would like to report that I have the Sonoris Meter, and the RME DigiCheck Meter, tracking almost exactly when both are running in the K-System modes. It had nothing to do with the 3dB AES switch. The answer was to make sure that the release time was set to 20dB, and the RLB-W weighting filter is switched off in the RME DigiCheck software settings. Otherwise, the RME will be showing abou 1.5dB lower than the "true" K value, with music or pink noise. Kind of obvious really, user error on my part, but posted for future reference! |
