The idea of using an EQ, compressor, as well as limiting and dithering is sound. However, much depends on how you use the plug ins in your chain. As has been said many times in this forum, there is no standard chain that fits every situation, especially not if you are using presets. You need to learn what the different parameters do, how they affect the sound and then you will be able to get the most out of them. The more you practice, the better you will become.

Let me put it another way, an experienced mastering engineer is likely to be able to get more out of your chain than you are. Why? Because experience is one of the most valuable tools you can have in your arsenal, whether you are using plug ins or the world's most expensive set up.

Best regards

If you're habitually using a multiband compressor, you're habitually mixing badly. Make sure your mixes sound fantastic first. If you need an extra "nudge", try a wideband compressor, but after the EQ.
