Thread Starter | Help Bass!!!!!!
Just moved my speakers into a new room (it's small as hell mind 6' by 8' or so with the height being 8' also) The room is uber reflective (laminate floor as well as even walls not to mention length and height are exactly the same dimension!) The only thing I have in there atm are literally my speakers on stands (Klein and hummel o300's) I listen to a lot of bass heavy music however when I went to crank it up there seemed to be an incredible lack of bass around the 50 hz region (that low g note that a lot of dnb / dub step guys like) it's almost as if it just disappeared! (and I know it's there, I've heard it before )What I want to know, some people say that a rooms size determines how low the bass can go (Is this the case? is this room doomed to not have enough bass??) I am looking to be kitting it out with a couple GIK 244's / tri-traps in the upcoming weeks which I am hoping will iron this out and hopefully it is just down to the lower notes cancelling out. I just want to know will I get my bass back in this room, please help gearslutz! |

Very likely you have cancellations (dips) caused by room modes. Check first where they occur and then proceed to correct the issues. You will likely need quite a bit of bass trapping.

Thanks for the quick reply! I tested the response with a mic and it seems that the dip is between 40 - 100hz or so (dip of around 15 db which I'm guessing isn't great?) As for the actual position in the room I don't seem to get any more bass when anywhere else (other than monitoring position) |

My friend you are in the room of doom! Nulls can slaughter your low end as you are experiencing. Why are your KH's in there? Have they misbehaved?

Try moving closer to that wall and place 244 or preferably Monster Bass Traps on stands behind the speakers and see if that helps. You're probably getting several nulls but the one from the back wall is most likely the worst and reducing the distance will alter that equation.

Jon, have a word with Pete Fletcher from First Love Studios, he built me a load of bass traps and we spent half a day calibrating my room so that the lower mid is almost ruler flat now Well worth it, you'll learn a lot too. I'm moving into a bigger room soon so I will be doing this all again..

And of course you have to check not to sit in a null of your room modes. Lack of bass can have different reasons, and sometimes it´s not easy to get rid of it. You have to find the best compromise regarding placement of speakers, listening spot and the placement and amount/size of bass traps. | |

Sounds like you're sitting in a node. You try moving things around a bit?
