Hey Fred!
Curious what you'll come up with. Still at Rue Bergé?

Yes, still happy with the Soma. Sometimes i miss a Q setting beyond 1.5 , then again i guess at the end of the chain is no place for small strokes...
It sounds and feels great and the m/s switch is so handy. Use that often to cut off at 30 on the sides only for vinyl masters. Still dangerously seductive as well; starting off with 4 dB lifts to end up with a 0.5 setting being just fine haha.

Hi Ben, those are PSI 25/3 from Switzerland.
They're tri amped active and ideal for midsize rooms.
My best investment ever. The image and detail are amazing.

Should you ever be on a trip in Europe, you're welcome to hear both.

When i needed a new monitor one of the things i looked at was the outside size, the rest didn't matter much. I ended up using a 20 inch screen that was exactly the same width as a 19 inch rack. It's a samsung ledscreen with i think 1600x900 resolution but also with adjustable viewing angle. Not sure which type, have to dig it up if you want to know.. it was pretty cheap and nothing special though.
I mounted it on a 4u blank 19 inch panel and to tilt it i used some metal work on the back where the screen is resting on.
Works great! I use it for my plugins and metering.

Thanks, I had something like that in mind, but I thought there was maybe a premade and affordable solution. As I already have a screen it will finally come down do DIY again, as soon as I finish the new desk. The idea of modifying a blank panel seems to be the easiest way of doing this.

Custom Beatles pot names (like "helter skelter" for crush, "getting better" for make up gain, "dont let me down" for threshold and many more like this Sorry for the shit pic, I'm moving the studio to the new location...

RJR Sick Sick Sick V2.0 buss compressor circuit (aka "Revolution mastering compressor"), RJR Bax EQ circuit (aka "Magical Mystery EQ"), custom Beatles inspired control interface: blend control for parallel compression (You Won't See Me), 150Hz sidechain hi-pass filter (Act Naturally), distortion mode (Helter Skelter) - something like "crush" on Smart. Drive is controlled by Ratio, amount by Threshold/pararell knobs; 7 position attack control 0.1 - 100ms (I'll Get You); 7 position release control 0.1 - 2.5s + AUTO (Hold Me Tight); 4 position ratio control 1.5, 2, 4, 10 (Let It Be); vintage 4" x 4.5" Beede meter modified with white LED's; vintage Dakaware and new Davies knobs; gray powdercoat 6U panel with black infill engraving; hard bypass (EQ and Comp separately), also there is pre/post switch to insert EQ before or after the comp and a meter scaling switch (x2). Lundahl transformers.

Everytihng is VERY transparent. The bax EQ is so sweet and "27k" band just rule for smoothing the top end (Ludahls give a nice bite to it too). The comp is so neutral and so amazing, I've tried 20+ buss compressors including smarts, hi-end ssl4000 copies, etc. and it eats them all out in terms of transparent compression. And one more thins. It's super quiet. I mean TOTALLY. This is now my main comp/eq just before I hit the tape.

Ventilation

Chris Bauer, how is the ventilation accomplished behind the equipment?
Does it run warm?

I have been thinking of this lately: a balance between nice ventilation, silence and access/viewing of all the knobs.

Nice room!

Hi Alécio,

The back is partially open … both for ventilation and to access the cabling. On my right side I have a Lynx Hilo which gets quite warm, but the other equipment stays relatively cool. On the left side I have two Gyraf units (G10 and G14) and they also stay cool, which is surprising given they are valve based. Then again, I am in Germany and we don't get hot weather like you probably do in Brazil. The temperature in my room fluctuates between 19 and 24 degrees Celsius throughout the year.

Best regards

Chris
