selectable frequency exciter

Hi,

I'm looking for an exciter that selects an area of frequencies. Not just one frequency like most exciters do, but something like 300hz to 900 or something like that.

I know of Ozone's (which I didn't like) and Melda's stereo Vst which is not too bad, but I'm hoping to find others if there out there.

thanks

Hi mate,

My take on the subject would be to copy the audio track or send it to an aux channel where you could eq the incoming signal to comply with your requirements (i.e - make use of highpass and/or lowpass filters to shape out the region) + apply an exciter like the one that comes from Waves: Aphex Vintage Aural Exciter Plugin | Waves

This will not only give you control over the process but also put two separate channels at your disposal (dry and processed) which you could easily play around with later on in the mix.

Hope that helps ))

Cheers,
Garry

Exciters are just high-pass filters, followed by compressors, followed by clippers that mix the processed audio with the unprocessed audio. There's no reason you couldn't assemble your own exciter using common plugins and configure it exactly how you want.

If you have a VST enabled host then you could use any VST exciter plugin along with DDMF's Metaplugin to just apply the effect to a selected frequency band -
DDMF: VST plugins, AU plugins, audio software

If you go the hardware rout then the SPL Vitalizer line allows you decent amount of control over its processing as well and can often be found for very affordable prices used.

Best regards,

thanks Garry, I never thought about that. I'll have to look into aux channels (I'm not as familiar with it) but I tried it with parallel processing (which I believe has basically the same effect) and got some interesting results. Definitely worth checking out, thanks!

that's what I originally thought but others swear that it's different. Look at supporters of the aphex aural exciter and the sonnox inflator i've never tried one so I'm looking forward to it.
