DA-45 for a mastering house

I have one, I don't know if I should keep it or sell it, maybe someone with a mastering studio could use an extra for parts. I wouldn't even know how much to ask for it. I think that something might be wrong with it, something with the tray. But any thoughts from you guys would be cool!

hAVEN'T HAD A dat IN FOR MONTHS (DOH!) ....of course Sod's law decrees that the day after you sell it you'll get a call from a client that needs hundreds of 24bit dat's tranfered for a huge sum of money.....but since it's bust i guess that's a moot point anywho......take it home and use it as the D/A on your home stereo....it'll impress your inlaws.

Both of my DAT machines' transports froze up about 6 months ago. Only Fuji has been making reliable DAT tape for five years. There are still machines I can rent but the format couldn't be more dead.

If you want your DA-45's to stay working, every six months you have to put in a DAT and run it. Otherwise the belts freeze in position. Ohmygod, I haven't done that in a while...

I remember seeing a car in dash dat player for $99. That's when I knew it was dead (THough I keep being tempted to get one from ebay becasue I've got years of stuff saved on DAT)

Hey Bob(s), good to see you over here...

We still have two DA-45s running in good condition over at our place.

Had 'em both serviced by Tascam a couple years ago.

Once in a blue moon we still get DATs to master from, needless to mention a huge archive of DATs, both 16 and 24 bit.

However we have a stack of disfunctional 3700s back in the shop... offers?

What no offers???

OK I'll sweeten the deal, come by the studio, you can have the 3700s for free!

... and your choice of free coffee or soft drink, and a cookie.

I need the shelf space, hate to throw them in the dumpster, bad for the environment... and disrespectful to machines that have served us well.

cheers

Hi there,

I've suspected that DAT's a dead format, but I still run every mix to a Tascam DA-30 via Apogee AD parallel to 1/2", in case the low end of my mix or the key of the song I'm mixing collides with the 1/2" head bump at 30 ips AND 15 ips...

So I guess I'll keep mine maintained still for quite a while.
Cheers,

Tom
