I use to do a lot of custom electronics work for my own studio and I have built my share of monitor controllers but they are expensive to build, if you do them right, and take a lot of time to build and troubleshoot properly and friends always want to buy it so recently I have just relied on my DAC-1 from Benchmark. I do all the mono switching and channel phase reversals in my DAW software (Wavelab). Works for me. I use a digital switcher from Z-Systems for my digital signals.

If I do eventually get a new monitor controller I think I will probably forgo the custom route and go with Crookwood instead since I have a lot of respect for the company and know they do things right.
