Final Mix Format

Presuming that my ultimate goal is to have the best stereo mix printed from an analog console. I am willing purchase a dedicated digital recorder and converters for this purpose. Or I am willing to purchase a digital multitracking setup that can do double duty (tracking as well and burning the final mix).

Again, the goal is the best stereo mix format and medium that will give the mastering engineer the most latitude. DSD, 192, 96, 48 on DVD or hard drive, etc. Specifically what converters and what machines.
