Very nice looking studio plus some impressive gear

How do you handle to have your gear outside the sweet spot? It looks very unusual for a mastering studio to have their gear "aside"

Thanks

To have the gear on the side was a decision my colleague Jørgen Knub (legendary danish mastering engineer whom i share the studio with) made before we joined forces. He's an amazing acoustician and decided to build it this way for acoustic reasons. We just have soo much gear (we also mix on occasion) that his first design had too much early reflection madness..

It did take me a while to get used to I'll admit, but luckily the sweet spot is large and the all important global bypass switch is in reach from the sweet spot. Rolling around can be fun but also annoying of course.. On the plus side it does help me not to twiddle with knobs for ages but instead 'listen - imagine the EQ move - do the EQ move - listen'.. That's the way i have been taught and this room helps me follow this workflow..

Not for everyone but I'm quite happy with it

Yes, Holger is a great guy, absolutely.

Still got lots of work with the new room but the desk is already fine!

Sonics Allegria S2. Nice speakers, best monitoring I ever had. For the price I picked them a no brainer. The only negative side is the critical vertical hotspot. I'll have to get used to that... For mixing tasks I still use my old Gennies 1030's with 1092.

Allegria (with "i"). However the official Sonics website doesn't display S2. They end at S1.5. Don't know why... Allegra's (without "i")are the smaller ones...

They have only information about S2 in other documents:

http://www.sonicsonline.de/download/...e_01032010.pdf

I don't think they already sold much of them, mine are #35.

I'm reviewing the remake of the Juice Box for Tape-Op... what I've learned in shooting it out with all the other boxes (third time I've done these tests btw)... you need both an Evil Twin (or REDDI) and a Juice Box. Transformers change the sound... the Juice Box does not! Midrange is most complete with tubes. Transformers saturate the bottom and can ring at the top audible range giving one the sense of extended top end and bigger bottom. Euphoric at times. Which one works best in the track is subjective at best and can really only be determined by auditioning both boxes prior to tracking.

Bottom line for me... there is no one box that does it all. Never was and never will be... and I don't care if we are talking DI's, mic pre's, EQ's compressors or even instruments.

Kind of makes half the discussions around these parts moot!

Now back to showing off mastering spaces...

I have both the Evil Twin and Reddi, I love them both and don't plan on getting rid of either... but right now I'm lusting after the Jule Monique. Here's a link for the Monique...Monique Bass Preamp DI EQ

Hey teebaum,

I don't know, the waveform display seems so small.
You might be missing some critical detail there...

;-)
