Thread Starter | Wave Arts FinalPlug 5 Auto Release
Produces audible pumping on my tracks. I am just wondering if anyone else here has had problems with this limiter? I can set the release to the fastest setting manually, but then there is distortion. The auto release seems to be really good at preventing distortion, but this pumping effect is really noticeable and not what I want at all. I like the dithering and the fact that you can audition the dither, but.... This seems to be a very poor limiter and I regret my decision to try it. |

It's really good for some types of music. Others not so much. I don't personally like the auto-release. Try the multiband, it's very smooth sounding. The whole wavearts suite is VERY smooth sounding. It's definitely not made for clipping stuff. A little bit goes a long way. It's great for acoustic pieces. Set the release manually and the pumping will go away... you want to time it to the track. If you are trying to flatten out drums, or smooth out the mids, use the multiband. The WaveArts plugs have a great sound, and maintain the stereo image nicely. This suite definitely has a clear sound, and puts space between the instruments. I definitely wouldn't use them on heavy metal tracks. Hope this helps. EDIT: Actually I think I am not doing them justice with my description. WaveArts are AMAZING for acoustic tracks. Very very smooth and transparent. Like I said, a little goes a LONG LONG way. If you are doing blues, jazz or folk, they are what you need. They might even work well on some classic rock and classic punk sounds if you push them a bit. I wouldn't put them any where near my metal or rap tracks, unless it's a lighter feel. They are for beautiful delicate stuff and they work really really well.

Maybe that's the problem... I am trying to use it on a harder edge track and the limiter pumps unless I set the release to a fast setting. I have some ambient tracks that I think it would be better suited for. I guess I can disable the limiter and just use it for dithering. This is the only other limiter that I have besides the L2 and Ozone 4. Which out of these two would be better for harder edge music (metal, dubstep, etc.)? |

I actually love the TrackPlug from them, but when it comes to limiting I've gotten good results as well. I do mainly metal and hardcore mixing and I never used the Auto Release. Sometimes I like Ozone and sometimes I like FinalPlug. I never really got into the Waves limiters. Don't do it for me. -Dan |

How fast do you usually set the release? I don't hear the limiter stop pumping unless it is around 1-20 ms. I don't know if I want to go with the fastest release, though, since it may introduce too much distortion.
