Thread Starter | Alternatives for MD3 PoCo
Hi, Since TC has dropped all future development of their PowerCore platform it's just a matter of time until I can't use my MD3 anymore. Someone have any suggestions for alternatives to MD3? And I would be grateful if it would have M/S integrated so I don't have to do that in a separate step, but EQ is not necessary. Thanks!

Flux Alchemist, perhaps.

If you don't need M/S then Alchemist is the closest thing available. However, if you do, it hasn't got it. The tools do sound different to me. Neither are bad but they don't directly compare. When the last PowerCore dies there's gonna be a pretty big hole in the non-TDM multiband comp world, MD3 is really a fairly unique plug-in.

same problem here... i use MD3 and brickwall limiter a lot... i am thinking to use in a old (actual) machine with a hi end converter like another processor... i know there are people who use plugs in that way with good results...

Elysia Alpha knows m/s and is flexible enough for most situations even if it's not a multiband.

Thankfully everything is working now for me Powercore wise, but that's an interesting idea.

I feel you pain I got screwed with the first powercore by TC, I bought it and not more then 3 months later they discontinued it for the powercore II. ![]() Then they would offer me any kind of upgrade deal. ![]() So I also recommend the flux alchemist, bad ass pluggin. Second option is to use the Ozone, but I don't like the sound of the limiter on that thing, but everything else is pretty cool. Also check out the UAD stuff and see if they have anything that may suit you. Hope that helps. thumbsup |

I like Izotope products, but the Multiband on that thing is in absolutely no way, shape or form any kind of replacement for MD3 in my book. Not anywhere near.....

But the limiter is so much better. In fact I feel the exact opposite about what lu432 said about Ozone.

I have the Alchemist so I will have to put it to the test again. Did some not-very-thorough test last summer when I didn't have access to my PoCo. Back then I decided to rather delay my work for a few days until I had my PoCo back and stick with MD3. And of course there's the option that Weiss suggested. That's probably the way I will go since I can see myself buying a new computer within a year anyway (for the rest of my setup). But who knows for how long my PoCo will keep up before it finally breaks? |

If you're on Windows you will have no issues with your PowerCore. There are 64-bit-win7-installers so you can use your PowerCore for sure the next 10 years... Sorry for the Mac-people but hey, they are used to have to buy new hardware every 2 years... |

What about the DSM from Paul Frindle? It's more than a multi-band compressor though I believe it works better than a regular multi-band compressor.. |

Thanks I will check out the DSM, Soniformer and Alchemist and see how it performs in comparison to MD3. I will report my findings over here but you will have to wait for two weeks for that. First awaits the beaches of Thailand ![]() And btw. yes, I'm on Mac. |

Why don't you get the DBX quantum. Bob Kats is always saying that it is better than the MD4 in the sys 6000 from memory. I think they are inexpensive as well. My Maselec MLA 3 made my MD3 totaly redundant but that is a lot of $$$$ |

I am also a Powercore user and I intend to sell it. The only thing that keeps me from doing that is that I cannot find an alternative for MD3 and VSS3. Any thoughts on that? Any Powercore user who has sold it and found alternatives? |

Obviously this takes a considerable amount of resources from the CPU as opposed to the PCore which has it´s own dsp.
