Tube Equipment Corporation SR-71 Blackbird vs. Fairman TMC

any mastering views and storys on this beauty ... as a comparance to the fairman TMC .... looks like a solid machine .. and now while € vs. $ is good .. it is a serious difference in price .. but performance ???? if any of you USA mastering engineers have seen/used/heard it .. ???
would you like to share ... is it fast enough ??? if that's a thing I should care about on this machine ...
it really looks like a great piece of gear, made by heart & with amazing passion for tubes ...

Well it's got more knobs than the Fairman so it must be better Wim!

All I can say is I still like the Fairman a lot, used it yesterday in fact. I mainly blend it in with the main signal though but it's a great beast.

I too would love to hear thoughts on the SR-71. Since the redesign the price is a lot more plausible for mere mortals...

was digging vari mus some times ago ...
tested a few but couldn't test those ones

but now i have the knif one i wouldn't go back to testing.
as the knif is not an other 670 version there's a lot of very interesting features wich made it quite unique

thnx guy's .. if I think about BIG tubes/Vari-mu like compressors the Knif is not out of my radar ...
the M/S option is nice, but all those options are easy to get in many ways ..
Most wise I think is first to focus on sound ..
Testing all those units will be difficult, but maybe sending some files to get some test through de diff. units will be wise ..
one problem I feel/ I see towards a USA based compagny , would be service ... sending it up & down would be costly and takes time ..

Knif/fairman are more close , so that's a plus for those ..

Larry Janus = (TEC) post regularly over at PSW WW.
There's a thread about the 660/670 and the various clones
and probably a bit more user feedback on the SR-71 as well.

thnx Tom, I know/have found the tread on PSW already in my search .. it's a quit minimal thread , only a NY studio is raving about it ... so I know where I can get a sample if needed .... thinking about a small sample pack of 3 tracks to send to some of these compressor owners ...

wish I could turn the controls myself :-(

Somehow, I can't get the idea of the SR-71 leaking fluid before it heats up out of my mind..

(apologies for silliness)

My wedding ring is made out of a piece of SR-71 exhaust, so I can beat you for silliness.
