Hi I created a dance beat, but the sound is different in my laptop speaker's when compared to my monitors. How do I make them sound the same ? I usually don't care, but I need to mix this for radio.

| Highpass your mix at 300 Hz and add some IM distortion. But of course you would not want to do this. And of course your mix will sound different on your laptop speakers compared to your monitors. What you should do is compare your mix to other professional "beats" on the same playback system. That's where you will find what you need to accomplish to get it to a professional level. |

Lots of places to start here, your best bet however is to consult a local pro. Especially if its going on the radio. You only get one shot at it! Might as well make the best of your situation and get someone to listen to it that does that kind of work professionally. If your going to take a stab at it, then I might suggest looking at a spectrum analyzer and start comparing your mixes with other mixes, then listening to your mix, and start adjusting it so it sounds as close to what you like on several different quality systems. I am sure some of the old guard will jump on here quickly to say "get it mastered professionally", and I can't blame them, but there are more tactile ways of getting that message across, then yelling "your a noob". |

That won't be easy. Many laptops now have artificial higher octave bass harmonics, to make 1/2 inch speakers that go down to 300 hz sound like they actually have bass. My suggestion is to get it to sound good in the laptop speakers as well as your regular speakers (and car's system too). Then you'll know it's almost there. Better to learn the shortfalls of each. The most important thing is not allowing anything to hit 0 db, avoid bus compression, or limiting to make it louder. Radio station compression will do that. This lowers the risk of distortion and you will sound better than the other overly squashed beats from your competition. If vocals are to be added to that later they'll be easier to mix into a more dynamic beat. |
