Routing with the Symphony I/O

OK so here's the deal Mastering Forum,

I'm pretty interested in buying this interface to run with Logic (heard some great things about it).

Want I'm wanting to know is how I would be able to route my Stereo Output to an outboard compressor and EQ unit and back into my Symphony.

I'm not a big fan of Dsub connectors so not really sure how they work.

I imagine I would need two Dsub to analog XLR cables (the cables with 8 XLR's at one side), but where do they all go?

Yes my EQ and compressor have XLR input and output.

This might seem simple to you but it's confusing me.

Thanks experts!

RTFM?

D-sub is a way of packing more connections in a smaller space. Get the d-sub to XLR cables and follow the directions in the manual (assuming you have the manual).

OK that doesn't help at all.

Guess with 25 years in the industry you can't remember what it's like starting off.

It's a simple question, requiring (to you guys) probably a simple answer.

Maybe something like stereo outs to compressor ins, compressor outs, to eq ins, eq outs back to stereo ins.

was just wondering if thats how it all works with Dsubs.

But thanks anyway.

You're too hung up on the db25 concept. They are just a convenient way of getting lots of I/O in a small space. At the other end you can have TT, TRS, XLR, etc and patch them into your gear or patchbay just like any other cable.

My Symphony is wired to my patchbay along with all my outboard, so that's where I make my connections, but there's nothing stopping you from hard-wiring directly to your gear from the XLR snake out of the Symphony.

In Logic, you could put an I/O plug-in that's set to 3/4 for output and input on your Stereo Output channel . Then your 3/4 physical output from the Symphony would get patched to your comp which would get sent to the EQ via a pair of XLR cables. Then the output of the EQ would go to Symphony input 3/4 where it would be returned to the I/O plug in Logic. All the while you'd be monitoring the Stereo Output, or out 1/2 from Logic.

Yes to be honest i was getting confused with the whole db25 thing but now that you have cleared it up, i understand it.

Te patch bay I was looking at takes db25 also so wasn't sure how routing works with it, but with your explanation I understand that you don't need to use all the outputs just because there plugged in to the patch bay, you simply route as normal.

Thanks.

Sorry I'm stepping up in gear and just want to be sure.
