From what I've seen demoed it won't be a major change operationally to begin with, things like the improved plug-in handling will AFAIK appear in a later release. The big difference right away will be native capability, which I hope attracts many new users to the DAW, though a bit of a dagnabit for me as my H-16 hardware running 5 already works well.

My feeling is that I may wait a while before upgrading, see how the land lies and also get the benefit of a few of the inevitable early bugs being ironed out - you can't run 5 and 6 on the same machine, and as I do this for a living I'd like to be sure of a painless changeover :-) Here's a link to SADiE's website, where the story is currently on the front page - I see the download doesn't require a licence for 30 days, so a good opportunity for anyone wanting to check the software out.

Although you'll need to be a subscriber to read the online version in entirety.

Yes, not a very useful demo for current users without a spare Windows computer… would anyone with an SOS subscription care to summarise anything surprising/notable that appeared in that review?

pros
Unique Trim Editor tool.
Multiplicity of alternative editing tools.
Immensely fast workflows.
Versatile file‑handling options.
Tailored Software Suites to suit different budgets and requirements.
Superbly simple but comprehensive PQ editor.
Rock‑solid hardware platforms, especially the integrated LRX2.
cons
SADiE remains an expensive system.
64‑bit working imminent but not yet released.
No MIDI recording or editing functions.
summary
A specialised, high‑end audio editing DAW with sophisticated CD creation, radio production and audio-for-video editing features. The lack of MIDI handling facilities rules SADiE out of electronic music creation roles, but where precision audio editing is required, few systems compare. SADiE 6 is the first version to run natively, while existing SADiE hardware platforms, like the remarkable LRX or gargantuan LiVE H128 remain available for specialist applications.

That's been my experience, and part of the reason I'm still using SADiE after such a long time. I'm no DAW expert, but I've yet to come across one offering the editing speed and elegance SADiE has, and that, coupled with its ability to write a master straight out of the playlist largely does it for me. I hear of some quite convoluted workflows discussed here and elsewhere, and wish more could share in what I consider my good fortune - maybe they'll be able to now.

Yes, SADiE is not the cheapest solution out there, but I think most would agree that quality costs and can be amortised over time if you're serious about what you do. Prism have also not been particularly forthcoming about the development delays with 6, finally introducing it by my reckoning at least nine months late, but better late and right (we hope!) than on time and wrong.

Same here. At least 10% of my work is classical editing and the speed and flexibility of the Sadie is a life-saver.

Some of my clients have been bringing in the multi-tracks (5-9 tracks) instead of just a stereo track. I edit across the multi-track takes, which is a breeze with Saide, allowing the producers to tweak the levels of spot/room mics right up to the end.

While our PCM-8 system is going on 8 years old it still works great for what I ask of it.

Sequoia 11 looks pretty impressive for mastering. Not sure what features Sadie would offer that Sequoia lacks.

I don't know either, but it'll be interesting to see what the takeup of SADiE 6 is from tomorrow.

Long time SADiST here.

Last December SADiSTS were offered a great deal to upgrade to SADiE 6. It was around $850.00 to get the top level native system, something now selling for close to $ 4000.00.

Of course there is a reason that the BBC runs over 500 SADiEs and that reason is that it is the best editor. It is not a PT replacement or a sequencer DAW for electronic music creation.

It is an editor extra-ordinaire for classical music with the best editing functions in the market. As far as competing with Sequoia, a good program, it is a more elegant solution, it is faster, it is easier to use. It is an integrated program doing everything that needs to be done to turn out a money making mastered cd.

We will download and test drive our paid for version on a laptop. Looking forward to learning the new system.

Sadie 6 out January 4th (2011 ;))

I know it's mainly for mastering but first impression is that this might be the best sounding Daw I heard.

I have both - I use Sequoia for mastering; and SADiE (on an LRX2) for the now-occasional classical recording and for all classical editing. Sequoia is quite superb (my old PCM8 couldn't handle VST's and it's included processing was a bit .. er ... beige) - but I still much prefer the SADiE editing paradigm.

Cheers,

Eric

Are yes here you are ranting and raving about sadie. But of course I know that Sadie sucks big time. Do not wastse your money on it. PT is far quicker to use. And Yeah my ISA and Motu converters sound just as good as sadie/prism when clocked to a better clock than there stupid LRX crap.
So you think you can call me Garbage and a manchild and a toilet scum va a private message? You are a **** extrmist it seems...
