I use my 8x192 as the backbone for my entire mastering rig. No complaints at all here.

I did some extensive comparisons, especially with the Lavry black I still have around as well as an Apogee AD16x/DA16x rig, and found the Mytek to give the most even sound with no hype.

I'd recommend trying the unit out if possible, but I think it's probably the best bang for the buck on the market in converters currently.

Very very happy with mine. Sounds great, better than the Benchmark which I had before. Routing is good, unit does what it should do and very well. If you can get it for the right price then go for it

Am very happy with mine too. Sounds fantastic, good functionality and is - imo - great value for money.

My only concerns were:

- unit has a fan, but it can be disconnected. If it has some air around it, it's not a problem
- unit has a very, very low level mechanical humm from mains transformer. It likely won't bug you, it's very low, but it's there (unless you remove the transformer from the unit and banish it into the machine room

Maybe the fan only goes on when the unit gets warm. Or the fan might be hooked off the jumper-connector (mine was when I got it).

Regarding mechanical transformer hum: how quiet is your room? Can you hear anything if you put your ear right up to the unit?

I disconnected the fan, and I can only hear the transformer hum when 'above' the unit - I don't hear it anything like as much from the front. I definitely don't hear it when I'm working.

I have never opened mine, so I don't know whether the fan is connected or not, but it has never been on. The unit is well vented, so perhaps that's the reason.

There were some bugs in the initial firmware couple of years ago causing the unit to be sometimes not recognized by Protools, but now it's very solid and should work with new Protools HD Native.

Users with older units should inquire with us about firmware upgrade.

As for fan: yes it can be user disconnected (its slowed down and quiet to start with and installed as precaution). The humming transformer was the case of one production batch- the transformer can be replaced if requested.

As for Mytek sound, pls ready this comparative review and decide if you really need to spend $7K to get the best sound:
