CD-R's?

What you suggest for Orange Book CD-R Master that are compatible with CD duplication factories? Are they specific brand and shops (internet) when I can buy them?

I really miss them as a live band.

I've just sent off my first few for replication so I'll see what happens. The ones that I have give higher error rates at high speed but are very similar to standard T-Y's when burned at 16X.

Thanks, I read somewhere that only 24gold plated are for CD replication - maybe I was wrong

By the way, does 8x speed is "neutral" for most master-cd-r's? I remember that someone mastered my CD few years ago and did it at 0,5x speed...

Does error rate depend on recording speed?

best write speed depends on the combi of media and writer ...
burn on max the 0.5 speed of the fastest available speed on your drive for being safe ..
the JVC came out best/lowest error-rate @ 16speed on my plextor-prem II.

best is to do some checks on which speed the combi performs best ..
for sure you need some tools like plextools and then a plextor drive to run the plextools software ..

otherwise cross-your fingers, or pretend you just don't know ...

Just got some JVC/TY discs in this week and have run some tests. In my Sadie/Plextor 760 combination the error rate is running a little higher on average but the maximum reading is lower than the TY's I had before the change.
Best results here were also at 16X.

I use JVCs as well for most stuff and found on my 52x writer, 16x consistently works the best.

Cdr question

I have an older marantz cdr writer that can only handle 650 mb cdrs.

Does anyone know a dealer that still carries those?

Correct (ie, whatever you read was wrong), although some say more suitable for archival and increased reflectivity. An Eclipse test at the plant will test for conformance to spec anyway, in addition to error rates.

They are related, in that optimum speed also depends on sensitivity of the dye used in the particular type and make of disc.

... and software, firmware, disc type, accuracy of the pre-groove, dye used (as mentioned), batch of discs, cleanliness...
