UV22HR / Bounce

Hello.

I'm mastering some material with plug-ins in a 44/24 session. I'm routing the audio output from the master fader in pro tools to SPDIF of the Apogee 200 with the process set to 16/UV22HR. I'm coming back in to pro tools from the SPDIF output of the Apogee.

My question is, if I bounce in the box, is it routing through the Apogee and being converted to 16 bit using the UV22HR process, or is it skipping the process and using something internal? If that's the case, I'll need to come out of the Apogee and record to 44/16 on a separate device, correct?

Thanks in advance.

Are you bouncing to disk, or re-recording back into the same session?

Hardware

Looks like you are using the Apogee Hardware to generate proper 16 Bit.
However when you record that back into a 24 Bit session I would assume that Protools will store your new 16 Bit words within 24 Bit ones, adding eight zeroes.

I am not sure what the picture means, your described scenario doesn't require Sample Rate Conversion.

Best, DD

To possibly answer what I think might be your question[s]:

If you choose "bounce to disk", then Pro Tools is not recording the output of your Apogee device, it is simply internally bouncing whatever track[s] you have selected.

Yes, if your session is 24 bit, you need to use a separate capture device to record the 16 bit output of your Apogees.

Why are you using UV22HR? You could use a different dither within Pro Tools while truncating to 16 bit.

Thank you, that answered my question. I am not re-recording into the same session because the bit depth does not match, I simply wanted to try UV22HR instead of POW-R and do it properly to compare.

FYI - the screenshot photo is my signature, nothing to do with my issue... but if you thought it was you totally should have made fun of me for choosing "Better"!

Thanks to everyone!
