a matter of judgement

Correct me if I am wrong but from what I know in the end of the day the product should be as neutral as possible in order to have the best possible translation. My questions to you experts is, what about dance music and electronic music in general where kicks are intended to be boomy or hats are supposed to be harsh, how do you decide how much boomy is boomy or hash is harsh?

A good brain to draw from experience & good monitoring. Reference CDs may help...

Imo, It becomes a matter of having faith in what you interpret to be correct to your ears....and that that will also cross over and translate to what others people perceive to be "right" and sound good as well...learning to trust your system and judgement.
It can take a long while to develop and even then...
