Calibration question

How is your mastering studio calibrated?
0VU = -...dbfs?

When do you receive some mix, peaking for example at -2/3dbfs, do you take it at 0VU to process with analog chain?

thank you

I have converters calibrated to -12, -10 and a set for tracking at -20.

Volume? Depends on the material. Sure, much of the end volume is determined by the analog chain. But there may well be some amount added digitally before it hits the analog gear. However - I don't tend to add volume *after* the chain -- It happens occasionally, but most of the time, the capture is the capture.

Thank you for the reply.

My second question was not to add but to have low volume.
You tell that your converters are at -12. If you receive some mix that is
-2 (really 'hot'), do you take down the volume at -12 to process with analog chain (that should work better around or less than 0VU) or do you leave it at -2?
I hope to have been clear

thanx

0VU = -8dBFS
-14dBFS = 0.775V

You're talking the difference between peak and RMS here -- No particular relation. A mix with peaks at -2dBFS could easily be sitting at -20dBRMS...

I have most of my converters set so that 0VU = -20dBfs RMS. I also have a set where 0VU = -15dBfs RMS.
