Reading up on mixing & mastering

Hi there, I am looking for some advice on some Really awesome and truly helpful reference material pertaining specifically to Mixing & mastering.

I want a book about purely mixing and then a book about mastering as well. Something specifically aimed at the native user not so much the guy with all the outboard expensive gear, can anyone give me some references? Thanks a lot.

Best book for a beginner mixer is MIXING AUDIO by Roey Izhaki.

There are plenty of other books on mixing techniques, tips and tricks (eg Mixing With Your Mind), but most of them are for people who already know the basics of mixing.

Izhaki's book still is the Bible for me. A no-brainer of a purchase - buy it from Amazon today.

I've never read anything on mastering, because frankly I think of mastering as something done by people with rackloads of expensive outboard equipment in a perfectly calibrated listening environment with great monitors. (Like, maybe a mastering engineer?) Quite apart from anything else, I want a different pair of ears to master my music.

But if I ever wanted to read up on mastering, I'd probably buy Bob Katz's book.

Bob's book is great. So is Bobby Owsinski's books on mixing and mastering. I hand these things out as Christmas presents for some clients!

Buy both, very comprehensive. Stavrou's "Mixing With Your Mind" is interesting too, if you take some of what he says with a truckload of salt. The guy is quite excentric, in a way, but there's a good pile of food for thought.

Owinsky's is nice, but quite unnecessary if you buy Izhaki's.
