Thread Starter | 13" records : reliable?
Hey there, I just came accross a webpage talking about a 13" vinyl release. Do you have an idea of how long a side could be on this? I have a project that maybe it could worth it to move onto a 13" from a double 12". I could save money, maybe? I know URP is doing it, but what are the other plants doing that kind of vinyl size? |

First question would be the packaging. Everything would have to be special order-paper sleeves, jackets etc. you are only gaining one inch per side. 2x12 still way to go I am still surprised URP would invest in modifying one of their presses for this.

In the end, maybe I could save money on second stamper, and the second LP that won't be needed.

Uhhhh...guys? Maybe consider looking at a few turntables... A lot of them don't have an extra 1/2" clearance with the tone arm. Not to mention how that would screw up the tone arm geometery... |

Because you might not be able to play it, store it easily with other records, etc. Only do the 13" if you deliberately want to piss people off or make them nervous, which is a perfectly valid intent.

You'd need a tone arm of at least 12" play a 13" disc properly, most arms are 9". A nine inch arm playing a 13" record might sound more distorted playing the extra outer inch. |
