Change attack and release during song

I have a song that starts slow with a kick organ and melody, then it changes tempo and becomes full band. As a result I have a ride on my attack and release time on the mixbus comp. attack varies between 15-30 and release between 150 and 260. Normal and all good?

I've changed comp settings during a track before. Whatever works, mate!

not very often, but well,

Somtimes.

What I'll do is process the first half with the first settings, and then do the second half and splice together!

Something that I've started doing for dynamic contrast is throwing on a compressor with a very fast attack time of 1-5ms and a release of about 300ms, maybe on the verses/mellow sections killing about 2-3dB at most. On the transition to the chorus or louder section I'll ride the ratio down to 1:1 and at the same time speed up the release to clear away the GR - it almost gives the effect like a blanket's being pulled off the entire mix. Especially when you nail the timing of the "up-suck" of the release control, it can prove to be very dramatic.

Real time on-the-fly moves are cool, but alternately you can just stop, change settings, print the new section, edit it back together after the fact. I do this with EQ and compression quite often. No biggie.
