If the 'maximisation' is already recorded / rendered then it would be more likely some kind of expander based process to help smooth over the damage, in my book.

I sometimes run clipped audio through the analogue chain and CL-2A, but hardly compressing, just to give it some more life and bounce.

As already suggested, upward expansion will probably be your best bet here. Though subtle use of compression can definitely be helpful too in taking the 'edge' off clipped material. Best, SK |
