I think what drive you use isn't as important as which SATA cable.

Seriously, I heard it from this dude;

not sure how I missed this thread this long. I've got a lot of experience with HDD. My main source of income is a security business so with everything moving to the DVRs a several years back I've done a bunch of field testing on different brands of HDDs and untill the past 2 years when every thing went to SATA, the Seagate barracuda's blew everything else out of the water as far price for performance. Hitachi Deskstars (nicknamed Deathstars) I found to be the most unreliable, maybe the Maxtors were more unreliable, but I had far less experience with these. This was back up when a couple of our Glyph's in the studio went out of warranty and I opened them up and low and behold, Seagate in everyone of them.

Now since everything has gone to SATA I've seen alot of out of the box defects from Seagate, and that makes me ANGRY (turning green and ripping off shirt) I've switched to the WD black caviars and had a great run. From my perspective the low noise if not something I consider the utmost important, but when I can find drives that run 24/7 365 and last 1-2 years then I would much rather put important files on those.

Just my 2 cents.
