sterling modular plan E rocks

just wanted to say, our of sheer bliss, that i just finished redoing my entire studio changing my desk over to a sterling modular plan E and i couldn't be happier.

it took a while to mentally accept a $3k desk... but now i know why they're this much money. unbelievable how these things are thought out. it is such a joy to look at, sit at, and work at.

one of the nicest "features" that i didn't realize until i started wiring everything, is that all of the cabling mess gets hidden away inside the pods.. and except for the cables coming out of my mac pro that has to sit next to the desk (some usb, firewire drive power supplies, etc) my studio is spotless.

had to share my grinning somewhere!
thumbsupthumbsupthumbsupthumbsup for Sterling desks.. i feel like i really got my money's worth.

I hear you. I've been looking at the D version for a long time. Asked a few custom builders to offer something similar, and the price skyrockets....

I look at it like $3000 split over 6 years of ease of operation means $500/year for the pleasure... Not too bad in my books....

The Plan E is great, I have had mine for 6 months now and it has totally changed my workflow and the room has never sounded better. The desks are a fair bit more expensive here in Australia due to the shipping involved but I still feel I got every cent worth.

I also had a piece of mine that was wrong in the original packing, which was kind of stressful as I had blocked out three days to refit the studio and rewire it at the time. Between my dealer and the Stirling guys they had the piece sent through to me ASAP from the US. Great service.

yeah, my room is small too.. but i'm also trying to create a hybrid room for mastering as well as my own music writing.. (and i'm a freeland graphic designer).. so key for me was placement of my 2 mac LCD monitors.. which the Plan A just doesn't do very well.

the D has that lowered shelf in back which is great for monitors.. and as i just discovered last week, the E does as well... the D worried me because there was no center rack for gear (which the A is so nice for: everything is centered)... but the E, to me, is the best of both worlds... place for 2 screens and 8 center rack spaces for tweaking EQs without having to lean to the left or right...

but... as i discovered after putting this together, the desk is small enough that even the side racks on the top are really close to you and you don't really need to lean in one direction at all to access them, at least the gear at the bottoms of those racks..

so, the D probably would have been great for me, too.. but $44 more for 8 center spaces was a no-brainer.

i couldn't be happier with this desk... my only regret is not having done this a couple years ago. it's tough to justify $3k on "only a desk".. so much more "boring" than a new piece of gear... but you forget how important ergonomics is and making these fundamental changes to the room and your workflow.

tops.

thanks!

yeah, assembly was really really easy.. a lot easier than i thought it would be for this type of thing. i did it by myself, and there was maybe one difficult spot, but other than that, typical allen-wrench, wood peg construction..

if you've ever put together an Ikea product, this will seem like second nature.

I also made similar desk switch this year, Went from this massive workstation 96inches long beast to a small desk with a slanted rack next to me (while saving for sterling) until the day I found local steal of a Plan A.

Cant wait to visit taylor's room with the Plan D to see how that might work as next change for me

They make great desks. The only limitation of the E is that it is acoustically a bit too large for my liking.

I do own a Plan E too. At the beginning I was quite worried because of the price, then I've been invited to sit and to try to test it.
After 5 minutes I was in love with it, I bought it and never regreted.
