waveform has more energy below center line than above

got a bunch of files from a client where the waveforms seem asymmetrical... more energy below the center line than above.. like this:

what is that exactly? anything to be concerned about?

There is some possibility of DC offset, however I've seen plenty of waveforms without DC offset that look asymmetrical. Run a DC offset removal plug-in on the file, and see if that makes a difference.

Hedd dsp causing problem

yea, that was the first thing i tried and it didn't make a difference.

[edit]

wait.. this was MY waveform, not clients.. i was looking at wrong file... after a little poking around.. this just got weird..

at first i thought it was a clocking issue.. but now i realize it's when i engage the HEDD's DSP that the waveform does that...

disengage DSP and waveform records fine...

anyone seen this??? please tell me the HEDD isn't busted..

i've been using it for years and never seen this...

HEDD's triode process adds some offset by design. Did you use it?

the problem has come to an embarassing close.....
(and mind you, this is after both opening up the hedd to check clock output connections and calling cranesong).....

unbeknownst to me, the TRIODE knob was set at 10 !

i never use the triode knob.. how it got to 10, i have no idea.. but sure enough, cranked up that high, it does produce this phenomenon.

oh.. hours of my life i won't get back..
