I think you have me confused with others in this thread. You should know there is a years old beef with me that comes from a couple people posting here. They are often subtle with the personal shots disguised otherwise.

I'm in this thread not to put down but to make one seemingly lone opinion known. A reality check on the buzz, and in a way I let go of for the Hypex months. Certainly Hypex is unique and not comparable to anything else, so it's a matter of taste. I simply don't get the hype here at all once you see the price is not novel. There's no basis for it once you know the A23 exists. The specs, parts quality and design don't hold up next to that choice, nor will the listening tests, once someone does them who is an Emo fan.

That's my point and I'm sticking with it. I know people who have taken this amp apart, tested it extensively on the bench, and with ears. It's a nice looking 80s type of design. The fact that people are rushing to buy it tells me:

a. Amps are back! As I predicted earlier this year. And that's very cool. Powered monitor amps are generally crap, and you're stuck with it all. Time to bring back the olden days!
b. In a bad economy, a cheap amp with buzz sells. And that's cool too, it's a nice amp ... except there is at least one (and maybe more) better options out there.

If the amp buzzes you shouldn't buy it, imo, even if its a nice amp. Its probably broken or something [or it wouldn't buzz].

Make them bring you a new one from the back room, in a box that hasn't been opened. That way you know its not used [and it probably won't buzz].

Your welcome, everybody.

Farrant has cleverly solved the problem by diverting all the buzz from his products into the name of the company. The company name basically sucks all the buzz out of everything that it is placed on.

Genius. Why didn't I think of that?

Just bought one of these Emotiva amps.

Okay ... last post. Keeping it simple as that's what this thread seems to require:

Emo - new company, known qc issues, lots of buzz on GS, may not be around in 5 years, dated design, mediocre sound

Hypex - established designer, lots of buzz on GS recently, will likely be around in 5 years, special and innovative design, mediocre sound

Parasound - old company, storied product line, no buzz at all, above average design in a familiar (not sexy) arena, above average sound, best value at $800

Is that better for everyone? Nothing upsetting I hope.

You may return to romanticizing Emo amps at will, just as was done with Hypex for a time.

The thread is way off, guys.

You should get something good like JBLs, or, the more modern, and oh so fashionable, Genelecs.

Trust me, that's what all the pros use. Snazzy sounds, and no buzzes!

Don't mention it.
