Nice article and something to think about.

I have been involved in lots of audio/video restoration/copying projects. They can be very labor intensive and time consuming to do. Usually they are done when the media is in very bad shape because the person who is asking for the restoration only gets the idea to restore or copy the media when they can no longer get it to play.

Most times these projects are fun to do but sometimes the detective work is more time consuming than the actual transfers.

We are losing our audio heritage and I hope people reading this article will start to realize that once it is gone, in most cases, it is gone for good.

I just finished some stuff up for the library of congress the other day at work. a good bit of restoration on the audio and cheap video I was able to make look great...came out pretty good and got accepted.

Thankfully, there finally is a medium that doesn't deteriorate with time - SSD.
